The foundation of SLII lies in teaching leaders to diagnose the needs of an individual or a team then use the appropriate leadership style to respond to the needs of the person, team, and the situation. SLII creates a shared process, language, and model for building leadership across all levels of an organization.

John uses an engaging facilitation style to create an effective and positive experience for participants from all levels of the organization. His focus is on the practical application of the various tools, skills, and models in both individual and organization settings. John’s mission is to contribute to the growth and development of others through teaching, writing, and serving.
John’s facilitation experience spans numerous industries including information technology, retail, aerospace, finance, automotive, energy, pharmaceutical, biotech, and manufacturing. His specific areas of expertise include leadership development, team performance, organization development, and time/ life management.
Prior to coming to The Ken Blanchard Companies, John was a director of learning and development for Nike, where he successfully implemented Situational Leadership II® and Situational Self Leadership. Over the course of his career, John has served in numerous senior leadership roles, mostly in the IT field. He has also authored several articles and blogs on leadership and self leadership.
John holds a master’s degree in adult education from Oregon State University, a bachelor’s degree in business information management from Brigham Young University-Hawaii, and is currently in a doctoral program in business administration at George Fox University. In addition, he has been certified in and facilitated numerous non-Blanchard programs including The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Focus: Achieving Your Highest Priorities, The Leadership Challenge, Insights, and MBTI.
When he is not on the road for Blanchard, John enjoys serving in his church.
